  • What is the difference between bits (kb/s) and bytes (kB/s)?

News Readers, Browsers and other file transfer agents tend to show speed in terms of kilobytes per second, usually with one or two decimal places. You may see newsbin report both: "1.63Mbps/209 KBps". The first figure is in bits (Megabits). The second figure is in bytes (KiloBytes). Both are equivalent.

To convert from Kilobits to KiloBytes, just divide the figure by 8.
